Those following me on Instagram know that I am a very outdoorsy kind of mom. I don’t mind running with my kids in the forest, on the beach or in a shopping mall for that matter. However I always felt like I wasn’t healthy and fit enough. So in the second week of January I started my journey ‘from fun mom to fun fit mom.’
From fun mom to fun fit mom
My reasons for making some lifestyle changes is that I was so incredibly healthy and fit before getting pregnant with Ryan. I felt strong, happy and stress free. Well with two kids the latter is often beyond my control but being strong and happy is something I have definitely got a lot of control over.
I also realised that making drastic changes would have a higher probability of failing. Changing habits is quite a challenge for any person. I decided to make small changes and gradually change my lifestyle to what it was in 2013. Note that I’m not aiming at a six-pack but a healthy and strong body and a balanced lifestyle is all I want. This isn’t just about losing some pounds but making some of my old habits my current lifestyle again. In addition I’m here to set an example for my kids.
We all know it takes time and effort to see some changes. Here are some of my first resolutions. I think of these as step 1 or the first stage.
- Exercising at least 2 times a week but preferably 3 times a week
- No sodas during the week and a minimum amount in the weekend.
- A cheat day.
- Not to be mad about myself when things don’t work out for whatever reason.
- Cutting sugar intake.
Looking back, looking forward
The past four weeks were not too bad. The first kilos are lost however I do feel that I have to move onto stage 2. Of course there were a few New Year’s receptions. We also had some working nights so working out 3 times wasn’t always easy. Unfortunately I experienced some major headaches because of cutting out sugar so drastically. On the up side eating cleaner is now a habit, however I’ve noticed that I’m still eating too much fat. I also eat too little too often. A few of my new additions to my resolutions are eating every two hours and including some healthy foods like vegetables, fruit and protein. In addition I would like to cut out some carbs and fatty products.
